For the better part of the last five decades we (collectively not individually) corrupted a system into something completely unsustainable.
There were periods of slow motion free fall, but since the economic downturn of 2007/2008 it has accelerated under its own corporate mass. How long is survives, and how bad it gets is really up to us. Unfortunately there are still too many unprepared for the task.
I remember when I first read Player Piano by Vonnegut and thought it was too far-fetched to be good science fiction. I re-read it recently and it felt prescient.
The democratic process is no longer an integral part of the American experiment because money in Washington is too far entrenched. With our current system, money buys power and influence and wins elections. This quid pro quo arrangement that has supplanted free and fair elections, will never again allow for average citizens to have a voice in DC. I realize that the powers arrayed against the Dems are overwhelming but couldn’t they, in solidarity, refuse to attend any congressional sessions? Granted, this would likely prove a weak and ineffective strategy but it would also not further legitimize this criminal administration!
I think any hope of the traditional/constitutional responses is a false hope. It’s impossible to barter or legislate or work with a group of people who have no real interest in governing. Destroying the system is there point. Sen. Whitehouse puts out videos of his attempts in the Senate to do the peoples work. They are notable because he often includes the Republican rebuttals. Those rebuttals are notable because they make no attempt to seriously address his arguments. They are farce and stated with a smirk. He recently posted a vid on YouTube about rising oceans and Ron Johnson(WI) responded. It’s beyond ludicrous. Keep hoping, keep fighting and keep resisting!

Sometimes, sometimes I feel my body is trapped in this “America” but my mind still has the freedom to see equality, justice and freedom.
Well put. That’s the thing they can neve take from us and we can pass along. The freedom to see equality, justice, and freedom.
